    Load characteristics:

    The load of a diesel engine usually refers to the resistance torque of the diesel engine. The working condition of the diesel engine is determined by the speed and load. The so-called load characteristic refers to the relationship of other main performance parameters changing with load when the speed of the diesel engine is constant. At this time, since the speed is constant, the effective power can be used to measure the load. In the process of engine commissioning, load characteristics are often used as the standard for comparison of performance.

    During the operation of the diesel engine, the amount of charge does not change much, mainly by changing the fuel supply per cycle to change the concentration of the mixture, thereby adjusting the load of the diesel engine (called quality adjustment). In other words, the diesel engine mainly changes the load by changing the position of the fuel injection pump adjusting lever and increasing or decreasing the fuel supply.

    Exhaust smoke increases with the increase of load, but it increases slowly at low load, and the smoke at low load is very small, and it is usually considered as exhaust smokeless. When the load is high, the smoke degree increases rapidly. When the maximum power is approached, the mixture formation and combustion deteriorate, the combustion is incomplete, and the exhaust smoke degree increases sharply. At this time, the fuel consumption rate also increases rapidly. The thermal load of parts such as pistons and cylinder heads has also increased rapidly. If the fuel supply continues to increase, the diesel exhaust will emit a large amount of black smoke, and the power will decrease. Therefore, the diesel engine has a smoke limit. In order to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the diesel engine, the diesel engine is not allowed to work under the smoking limit.

    Speed characteristics:

    When the position of the fuel adjustment rod (rod or rack) of the diesel fuel injection pump is fixed, the relationship between the engine's performance parameters and the speed is called the speed characteristic of the diesel engine. When the fuel injection pump oil volume adjustment lever is fixed at the calibrated power position, the measured speed characteristic is called the full load speed characteristic (external characteristic). When the fuel injection pump oil volume adjustment lever is fixed at a position less than the calibrated power, the measured speed characteristic is called the partial load speed characteristic.

    The speed regulation performance of a diesel engine is closely related to the external characteristics (full load speed characteristics), and the two are often drawn on the same graph. When the diesel engine is undergoing speed regulation characteristic test, the speed characteristic curve shall be measured at the same time.

    Universal characteristics:

    Diesel engine load characteristics and speed characteristics only represent the change law of diesel engine performance parameters at a certain specified speed or the position of the fuel injection pump oil volume adjustment lever. Due to the wide range of operating conditions of engineering machinery and automotive engines, many load characteristics and speed characteristic curves are required to analyze the performance under various operating conditions.
