Matters needing attention in the intake and exhaust system of diesel generator sets

The intake and exhaust systems of diesel generator sets are mainly composed of air filters, intake and exhaust pipes, and mufflers.
air filter:
The function of the air filter is to filter out dust and impurities in the air, and to send clean air into the cylinder to reduce the wear of the piston connecting rod group, the valve mechanism and the cylinder. The requirements for the air filter are: high filtration efficiency, low resistance, long application period and convenient maintenance. There are three types of air filter filtration methods.
(1) Inertial type (centrifugal type): Taking advantage of the high density of dust and impurities in the air composition, by guiding the airflow to rotate or turn sharply, the dust and impurities are separated from the air under the action of centrifugal force.
(2) Oil bath type (wet type): When air passes through the oil, air impurities are deposited in the oil and filtered.
(3) Filter type (dry type): guide the airflow through the filter element, so that dust and impurities are adhered to the filter element by impurities.
In order to obtain a better filtering effect, the above two or three methods of comprehensive filtering can be used. The air filter is composed of a filter housing and a filter element, and the filter housing is stamped from a thin steel plate.
2. Intake and exhaust pipe:
The function of the intake and exhaust pipes is to guide fresh working fluid into the cylinder and exhaust exhaust gas from the cylinder. The intake and exhaust pipes should have small airflow resistance to reduce the air intake and exhaust resistance. Modern diesel engines also require that the structure and shape of the intake and exhaust pipes are conducive to the inertia and pressure pulsation effects of the airflow, so as to improve the charge and exhaust energy utilization.
The intake and exhaust pipes are generally made of cast iron. The intake pipe is also made of aluminum alloy casting or steel stamping and welding. The intake and exhaust pipes are bolted to the cylinder (overhead air distribution mechanism), and the joints are equipped with sealing gaskets to prevent air leakage.
3. Muffler:
When the exhaust gas discharged from the diesel engine flows in the exhaust pipe, due to the influence of the opening and closing of the exhaust valve and the reciprocating movement of the piston, the airflow is in the form of pulsation and has a large energy. If the exhaust gas is directly discharged into the atmosphere, it will produce strong exhaust noise. The function of the muffler is to reduce exhaust noise and eliminate sparks in the exhaust gas.
The muffler is generally stamped and welded by thin steel plates. Its working principle is to reduce the pressure fluctuation of the exhaust gas and consume the energy of the exhaust gas flow. Generally, the following methods are used:

Lower the air temperature.
